Croizet-Bages is a Fifth Growth Pauillac with a quiet advantage: its 30-hectare vineyard sits on a single contiguous parcel on the Bages plateau, near illustrious neighbors like Lynch-Bages and Grand-Puy-Lacoste. Owned since 1942 by the Quie family (who also hold Rauzan-Gassies in Margaux), it is a classic Cabernet Sauvignon-led Pauillac, filled out with Merlot and a touch of Cabernet Franc. The 2005 is from a benchmark left-bank vintage known for structure and ripe, dense fruit, and at two decades old it has shed its youthful grip. A well-priced way into mature classed-growth Pauillac.
