Château d'Oupia's Les Hérétiques is the kind of bottle that makes you rethink what you expect from a Languedoc wine under twenty dollars. More about Chateau d'Oupia

André Iché inherited a medieval castle and a big spread of old vines on the rocky hillsides of the Minervois, and nursed those gnarly Carignan, Grenache and Syrah vines back to health. Robert Parker took notice, declaring that Château d'Oupia had produced 'the ideal bistro wine'. André died in 2007, and his daughter Marie-Pierre now runs the estate. Her Les Hérétiques, mostly old-vine Carignan with a splash of Syrah, is a nod to the region's heretical past and one of the great red bargains of southern France.
