Chateau d'Yquem stands alone — the only estate classified Premier Cru Superieur in 1855, the undisputed summit of Sauternes. These are wines made from botrytized Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc, picked grape by grape over multiple passes, capable of aging for generations. The 1988 is part of a legendary trio of consecutive vintages, and represents the firmer, more structured, classically poised end of that run.
