Here's red Graves with fifteen years already behind it, so the waiting is done for you. Haut-Bergey sits in the heart of the Léognan commune. Its six vineyard blocks lie on gravel rises shaped by the old bed of the Eau Blanche, the river that runs through the village. This 2010 comes from the Sylviane Garcin-Cathiard years. The Garcin family bought a run-down property in 1991, and she rebuilt the vineyards and cellars, growing the estate from 18 to 44 hectares over two decades and farming without herbicides from the start. (A bit of trivia: vines weren't replanted until 1957.) Paul Garcin took over in 2014 and has since made Haut-Bergey the only biodynamic estate in Pessac-Léognan. This bottle was made before that change, but it comes from the same ground and the same family. If you want a mature Left Bank Bordeaux without cellaring it yourself, this is a straightforward place to start.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Roast leg of lamb with rosemary and garlic; entrecôte à la bordelaise with shallot and red wine sauce; duck confit with sautéed potatoes; wild mushroom risotto; aged Comté or Tomme de Savoie.

Tasting Profile

Expect the classic red Graves profile: blackcurrant and dark cherry with the region's signature tobacco, cedar and warm, gravelly earth, plus a hint of smoke. Cabernet Sauvignon from these gravel soils is typically medium- to full-bodied, with firm tannins that soften into a supple texture with bottle age, fresh acidity, and a dry, savoury, lingering finish.
