Third Growth Saint-Julien—classified in 1855 and still owned by the same family. Thomas Barton, an Irishman, settled in Bordeaux in 1722 and founded a wine merchant house; his grandson Hugh purchased Langoa in 1821. Nine generations of continuous Barton ownership—one of the only 1855 classified growths still in original family hands. 20 hectares of quaternary gravel over clay; 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc. Hand-harvested, aged 16-18 months in French oak (60% new). Now managed by Lilian Barton-Sartorius.

Antonio Galloni

"The 2015 Langoa Barton has a classy bouquet with cedar- and tobacco-infused black fruit along with a little sous-bois that emerges with time. The palate is medium-bodied, taut and crisp, with pliant tannins and plenty of graphite toward the finish that is endowed with fine density and satisfying length. The 2015 is excellent. Tasted blind at the 2015 Bordeaux Ten-Year-On tasting at Farr Vintners." —Neal Martin

Robert Parker

"Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Langoa Barton is scented of cedar and Marmite toast with black fruit and fertile earth notes. The medium-bodied palate is oaky with a good fruit core, fine-grained tannins and nice freshness on the finish." —Lisa Perrotti-Brown

"We were shown a special illustrated label for the 2021 Langoa commissioned by Damien Barton to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Barton purchase of Langoa, the family's first property in the Médoc. Anthony B died while it was being designed so features on it in a small way, with his dog.Very dark crimson. Wonderfully perfumed, almost Margaux-like, nose and lovely, silky texture. Gorgeous." —Jancis Robinson MW
