Under Jacky Lorenzetti's ownership since 2009, this Fifth Growth Pauillac has transformed from underperformer to serious contender. The 2011 shows blackcurrant and dark cocoa with well-integrated oak and remarkably soft tannins—unusual for Pauillac. Nineteen different terroirs within the property, predominantly gravel and gravel-sand on limestone, allow for precise blending that balances power with approachability. The wine is accessible now but continues improving. A Pauillac reborn.

Antonio Galloni

87 points

"Bright, deep red. Red cherry, licorice and coffee on the nose. The palate offers good spicy intensity to the dark berry and cedar flavors. A slight leafiness carries through the moderately persistent finish, which shows building cedar and herbal qualities." —Ian D'Agata

Robert Parker

86 points

"The 2011 Pedesclaux has a touch of sur-maturité on the nose, fresh prune mixed with the black fruit, as if it is trying a little too hard after the 2010. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet and candied entry, supple ripe tannin with noticeable acidity that just seems a little shrill towards the finish. Not bad, though I find more sophistication in the 2010 Pedesclaux. Tasted March 2016. " —Neal Martin

Wine Spectator

93 points

"A ripe, plush, modern style, with a ganache note leading the way for crushed plum, blackberry and currant pâte de fruit notes. Lots of briar and anise on the finish lends a grippy feel. Rock-solid. An estate rapidly on the rise."

More about Chateau Pedesclaux

Pauillac's Fifth Growths don't always age like aristocrats, but Pédesclaux does. The wines are sturdy, structured, and built for the cellar. Not flashy, not expensive, but genuinely age-worthy—the kind of wine that rewards patient collectors.
