A legendary vintage from a legendary cru, forty-seven years on. Enrico VI is Cordero di Montezemolo's flagship single-vineyard Barolo — a 2.2-hectare parcel in the Villero cru of Castiglione Falletto, purchased by Paolo Cordero in 1965 and named in the early 1970s for his sixth-born son, Enrico. Villero is one of Barolo's most historically prestigious hillsides: compact clay, calcareous soils, and a southern exposure that gives Nebbiolo of stature and depth. 1978 stands among the twentieth century's truly great Piedmont vintages — classical, structured, built for the decades. At forty-seven years on, a perfectly stored bottle is a museum piece at full secondary peak: tar, dried rose, leather, truffle, and the haunting persistence only legendary old Barolo delivers.

Roasted capon with truffle, brasato al Barolo, or a quiet plate of tajarin with white truffle in season. Aged Castelmagno or Bra Duro to close. Keep dishes restrained.

Tasting Profile

Full secondary peak: tar, dried rose, leather, sweet truffled earth, sandalwood, and faded cherry preserve. Tannins long resolved; acidity still vibrant; the finish unspools for a minute or more. Haunting old Barolo.
