Mature regional Pinot from a quietly excellent Chambolle family domaine. Digioia-Royer is a five-hectare estate in Chambolle-Musigny, third generation under Michel Digioia since 1999, working sustainably with full destemming and traditional oak aging. This is Bourgogne Rouge from the higher Hautes-Cotes de Nuits, an honest, terroir-driven Pinot Noir from the 2012 vintage, a small and concentrated year. Now mature and a friendly, low-stakes introduction to the house style.

Robert Parker

"The 2012 Hautes Cotes de Nuits Rouge comes from a parcel in Concoeur occupied by 48-year-old vines. It has a perfumed bouquet with ripe cranberry and raspberry aromas, the oak very well integrated and creating a very suave and harmonious bouquet. The palate is nicely balanced with a firm, almost steely grip on the entry, like the Bourgogne Rouge, demonstrating more structure than many of its peers. The 20% new oak is well used and lends the wine presence and breadth, yet without detracting from it elegant finish. This is another very fine wine from Michel Digioia." —Neal Martin
