Two engineers who grew up near Chinon quit their desks, went back to school, and bought eleven hectares of hillside vines — this is what that looks like in the glass. Henri and Valentin Bruneau took over their estate in Beaumont-en-Véron in 2019 and have farmed it organically since day one, working only their own fruit and bottling parcel by parcel, each cuvée named for where it grew. Their reds are 100% Cabernet Franc, and the house approach in the cellar is about as hands-off as it gets. Eighty percent of the vines came from massale selection, which is the slow, unglamorous way to do it and the reason these wines taste like a place rather than a formula. For Cabernet Franc drinkers who want the real thing without the collector tax, this is a name to get in front of.

More about Domaine des Freres

Two brothers who ditched steady careers to farm 27 acres of ancient vines near Chinon—Henri and Valentin grew up in the shadow of the Loire and both became engineers before deciding that wine mattered more. They respect the old vineyard blocks (35–50 years old) and the limestone terroir, making Loire reds that taste like the soil itself—tangy, mineral, built for food rather than fawning over ratings. Organic farmers making wines that actually taste interesting, not just technically correct.

What has to say about this wine:

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Roast pork loin with prunes, rillettes and cornichons on baguette, grilled lamb chops, mushroom risotto, a plate of goat cheese and charcuterie. A slight chill makes it a good match for roast chicken or a burger off the grill.

Tasting Profile

Dry red with aromas of raspberry, cassis and crushed violets, plus the graphite-and-herb edge that marks good Cabernet Franc. Medium-bodied and bright, with fresh acidity and fine, gently grippy tannins. The finish is savory and peppery rather than sweet.

Loire Valley Wines

The Loire Valley is France’s greatest source of value for anyone looking for elegant, terroir-driven wines. Our collection celebrates the region’s great diversity, with the mineral-driven whites of Muscadet and Sancerre, the beautiful Chenin Blancs and Cabernet Francs from villages like Vouvray and Chinon, and natural wines from everywhere in the region. Sometimes wonderfully fresh and gulpable, sometimes serious and age-worthy, the prices are always very reasonable.
