A Jura Chardonnay magnum from old vines on fossil-rich limestone. Domaine des Marnes Blanches is the parcel-by-parcel project of Pauline and Géraud Fromont, who returned to the Jura in 2006 and have farmed organically since 2013. The En Levrette lieu-dit lies in Vincelles, where roughly 60-year-old Chardonnay vines drive their roots into thin topsoil over iron-rich limestone packed with gryphée (oyster) fossils. Topped-up (ouillé) rather than oxidative, fermented with native yeasts, aged 18 months in old oak with minimal sulfur — the winemaking gets out of the way of the site. Côtes du Jura at its most precise and luminous. The magnum format slows everything down and rewards patience.
