Affordable back-vintage Burgundy genuinely exists, and Meix Foulot is where Flatiron goes to find it. While the rest of the market rushes the newest vintages out the door, this fiercely traditional Mercurey specialist's late-arriving releases (imported by Neal Rosenthal) hit their ready-to-drink sweet spot just as they reach our shelves. Agnes de Launay runs the estate with virtually no new oak and not a single vine outside the village. The Clos du Chateau de Montaigu is a monopole 1er Cru, and at fifteen years the 2010, a classic, structured Burgundy vintage, is in a lovely mature window now. With the Edges of Burgundy under pricing pressure, Mercurey's high-altitude limestone slopes remain a true value haven.
