Pierre-Marie Chermette is a fifth-generation Beaujolais grower committed to traditional methods, no chaptalization, no added yeast, just clean expressions of each cru. Fleurie is the famously floral, perfumed cru of Beaujolais, and Les Garants is one of its top granite-rich sites. This 2014 has a decade-plus of bottle age, having traded youthful florality for mature, savory complexity. A back-vintage cru Beaujolais from a true traditionalist, drinking beautifully now. Pierre-Marie Chermette took over the family domain in 1982 and produces Beaujolais the traditional way: whole-cluster, semi-carbonic ferments in old foudres, no chaptalization or added yeast, aging in wood. His Fleurie 'Les Garants' is structured, dense, generous with black plum and cherry fruit. This is a fifth-generation grower with 100+ year-old vines, all under $20.
