What is this wine?

Founded in 1928, Domaine Huet is the benchmark estate of Vouvray, renowned for its Chenin Blanc across the full range of sweetness levels. Clos du Bourg is often considered the jewel of the domaine: a walled, limestone-rich vineyard that produces wines of great intensity and minerality. The Sec (dry) bottling highlights Chenin Blanc in its purest form, emphasizing clarity and structure. The 2024 vintage brings freshness, precision, and lift—an archetypal dry Vouvray.

Why get this wine?

Huet’s Clos du Bourg Sec is one of the Loire Valley’s most collectible dry whites, prized for its combination of density and tension. While approachable young, it also has a remarkable track record for long aging, evolving complex honeyed and mineral notes over decades. With Huet’s reputation and the growing scarcity of top Loire Chenin, this is a wine to buy both for near-term enjoyment and for the cellar.

What does this wine taste like?

Crisp and focused, with flavors of citrus, green apple, quince, and white flowers over a backbone of chalky minerality. The palate is taut, vibrant, and dry, with a long, saline finish.

When should you drink this wine?

Delicious now for its youthful energy, but capable of aging gracefully for 15–20 years. Perfect with seafood, shellfish, goat cheese, or light poultry dishes. Serve well-chilled.

Wine Spectator

93 points

"A lacy, seductive version, with impressive range to its notes of chamomile, heather, honey water and blanched almond, all atop a crunchy core of quince and nectarine. Its sneaky density builds, electrified by juicy acidity that uplifts the plumpness. The elegant finish is marked by smoke and a cool rush of alpine herbs. Stunning. Drink now through 2040."

Flatiron's Take

From the Importer

What Polaner Selections has to say about this wine:

VineyardThis ancient, walled vineyard has the estate’s shallowest, stoniest soils. The wines are rich and intense. Many consider this to be Vouvray’s finest single vineyard site. Size: 6 hectaresSoilLimestone-rich clay soilsViticultureAll grapes harvest by hand, which enables picking by successive tries - each tri being a separate pass by the workers through the vineyard, ensuring only the best bunches of ripest (or even botrytised) grapes. Noel Pinguet was one of the first French vignerons to adopt biodynamic viticulture and credit biodynamics with enhancing the personalities of the estate's terroirs.VinificationUndergoes temperature-controlled fermentation in large, old oak demi-muids as well as stainless steel vats. There is no encouragement of the malolactic fermentation, thus many Huet wines remain rich in malic acid, a character that brings an age-worthiness to the wines. The concentration of residual sugar in sec cuvées is traditionally around 4-9 g/lAgingAged in large demi-muids

Our collection celebrates the region’s great diversity, with the mineral-driven whites of Muscadet and Sancerre, the beautiful Chenin Blancs and Cabernet Francs from villages like Vouvray and Chinon, and natural wines from everywhere in the region. Sometimes wonderfully fresh and gulpable, sometimes serious and age-worthy, the prices are always very reasonable.
