Antonio Galloni

"The 2017 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos de la Maréchale 1er Cru has a delightful bouquet of raspberry, crushed strawberry and rose petal aromas. The palate seems pliable in the mouth, featuring pure red fruit laced with brown spices and a saline finish that feels precise. Excellent."

"I was disappointed by this bottle of Mugnier's 2017 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos de la Maréchale, which I ordered at a Michelin-starred restaurant in Bordeaux. Dominated by horsey, animal aromas, it was far removed from the perfumed sensuality of this domaine's wines at their best. Friends tell me they have had better recent experiences, but in principle, this bottle had been well conserved throughout its life, so it may simply be a case of varying degrees of tolerance for these particular flavors." —William Kelley

"Fred Mugnier's sizeable 9.55ha premier cru is always a good source of well-priced drinking in Nuits-St-Georges. His sensitively oaked, refined 2017 shows his characteristic lightness of touch with filigree tannins and scented wild strawberry and pomegranate fruit."

More about Domaine Jacques-Frederic Mugnier

When Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier pulls Pinot Noir from Chambolle-Musigny, especially the legendary Les Amoureuses, you're tasting one of Burgundy's most hypnotic expressions. Aromatic, silken, age-worthy—wines that sit at the exact intersection of power and grace, of fruit and structure. Becky Wasserman's importing ensures these reach the best tables in America. Worth the effort to find and worth the price once you understand what you're getting.
