Les Vaucrains is widely considered the apex of the Chauvenet range, and one of the most powerful premier crus in all of Nuits-Saint-Georges. Perched on the upper slope above Les Saint-Georges on poor, rocky soils, it yields the domaine's most structured, dark-fruited, age-demanding wine, here from a tiny parcel of very old vines. Domaine Jean Chauvenet, run since 1994 by Christophe Drag, builds these for the long haul. The 2007 is a lighter, earlier-maturing vintage, so this powerful cru is well-placed to be drinking nicely now at nearly two decades. Pinot Noir. Decant.
