Some of the oldest Grenache vines in all of Chateauneuf-du-Pape feed this estate's wines, many planted between 1891 and 1920, growing in the galet-strewn soils of Cabrieres just below Mont Redon. Michel Arnaud took over the family domaine in 1983 and aged the wines in old foudre, capturing pure, dense, unadorned Chateauneuf. The 2005 is now a back-vintage from a fine, structured year, fully mature and showing the savory, leathery, spiced character that this appellation develops with time. Drink now. Provenance from a private cellar.
