A friendly, fairly priced corner of the Cote de Beaune, Chorey-les-Beaune is the flat-land village just north of Beaune that locals drink young and happily. Maillard Pere et Fils has been here for ten generations and this is their home turf, made traditionally in vats and aged in oak. From the warm, generous 2009 vintage, this is now well into maturity at 15-plus years, so expect a soft, mellow, ready-to-drink red Burgundy rather than anything demanding. Pinot Noir. Decant briefly and pour.
