Pierre Duroche is one of Gevrey-Chambertin's rising stars, and in 2021 this bottling captures why the whole village watches him. Frost and mildew slashed yields across Burgundy that year, and here 'Les Jeunes Rois', the young kings, came down to just four barrels from vines planted in 1952. Concentration arrived naturally through millerandage, those tiny shot berries that pack in flavor. The result is classic, cool-vintage Burgundy: poised, fine-grained, and mineral, with more depth than a village wine has any right to. Hand-farmed with minimal oak, it lets the fruit speak in its purest voice.

Antonio Galloni

"The 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Jeunes Rois has quite a feisty and expressive bouquet, perhaps happy that there are four barrels this year. There is real concentration on the nose due to the millerandage. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins, harmonious and poised, lightly spiced with a little more substance than the Gevrey Village. Very fine." —Neal Martin

Robert Parker

91 points

"The 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Jeunes Rois is the sole lieu-dit bottling Duroché produced this year. Bursting with aromas of raspberries, orange rind, plums, rose petals and forest floor, it's medium to full-bodied, supple and seamless, with melting tannins, lively acids and a long, spicy finish." —William Kelley

More about Duroche

Gilles Duroché and his son Pierre run eight hectares of Gevrey-Chambertin, spanning village, premier cru, and grand cru levels across the appellation's finest sites. Hand-harvested, minimal oak—wines made to let the grapes reveal their purest form. Pierre is the fifth generation to work the vines here, taking over from his father in 2007. Fourth and fifth generation Burgundy, made with the kind of attention to detail that separates the serious from the pretenders.
