When David Lett planted Pinot Noir in the Dundee Hills in 1965, almost no one in California believed the grape could ripen this far north. His 1975 South Block Pinot placed alongside top Burgundies in the famous 1979 Paris tasting and changed the conversation overnight. Today his son Jason Lett continues the estate's quietly classical tradition. The Estate Pinot Noir is a multi-block blend from the original Dundee Hills volcanic Jory soils, made with native yeasts, neutral oak, and a deliberately light hand. The result is everything Eyrie has always stood for: lighter-bodied and more transparent than typical Oregon Pinot, with the Burgundian sensibility that defined the New World pioneer. Approachable now, ageworthy in the cellar.

"The 2022 Pinot Noir Estate is dark and brooding in the glass, mixing flowery underbrush with crushed rocks, cooling white smoke and hints of dried strawberry. It splashes across the palate, energetic and crisply refreshing, showcasing tart red and blue fruits and crunchy mineral tones, all motivated by brisk acidity. A peppery flourish defines the finale as the 2022 tapers off with a pleasantly tart concentration. Notes of licorice linger beneath an air of violet florals." —Eric Guido

"From the first pour of this vibrant purple-hued Pinot, you'll know you're in for an extraordinary ride. This estate bottling blends Pinot from Eyrie’s 5 certified-organic estate vineyards, where the Willamette Valley's iconic variety got its start. This sophisticated, well-balanced, and highly aromatic wine offers notes of candied strawberries, orange peel, pink peppercorns, and a bouquet of florals, highlighted by the distinct scent of rose petals. On the palate, the grippy tannins and vibrant acidity hint at a promising ageing journey."

"Elegantly structured and bright with fresh acidity, this red offers compelling flavors of cherry and cranberry highlighted by green tea and dusky spices. Gathers steely tension toward refined tannins. Drink now through 2033."

Wine Enthusiast

"Eyrie's estate wine Pinot Noir soars like an eagle with aromas of blackberries, violets and the pine needles, duff and mushroom qualities often found on a forest floor. Tart black cherry and lemon zest flavors are joined by notes of cacao nibs and a wee bit of bone marrow. Crisp acidity and silky tannins offer ample support."

More about Eyrie

David Lett planted the first Pinot Noir vines in Oregon's Willamette Valley in 1965 and released the first vintage in 1970. He also pioneered Pinot Gris in America. His 1975 Reserve placed second at the 1979 Wine Olympics, losing by a hair to a 1959 Burgundy. David's vision transformed Oregon from a wild frontier into a world-class Pinot region.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

A classic with roast duck, mushroom risotto, salmon, or coq au vin. Also pairs beautifully with roast turkey, herb-crusted pork loin, charcuterie boards, and dishes featuring earthy ingredients like lentils, beets, and truffles.

Tasting Profile

Red cherry, raspberry, rose petal, forest floor, and a wash of volcanic minerality. Light to medium-bodied, transparent, and finely structured, with silky tannins and lifted acidity. Burgundian in spirit, with another decade of upside in the cellar.
