No wine has more range than great Chianti Classico, and Felsina's are supreme examples: delicious in an immediate, pizza-and-beer-friendly way yet wines of real terroir that can age 20 years. From a single amphitheater-shaped estate in Castelnuovo Berardenga, the limestone-and-slate soils give menthol and spice for lift, with leather, tobacco, and minerality underneath. The Riserva is the heart of what Flatiron drinks day to day, equally at home with pizza or a seared steak. The 2022 is the current release, already drinking beautifully young but built to reward years in the cellar.

Antonio Galloni

"The 2022 Chianti Classico Riserva is classic Fèlsina to the core. A blast of dark plum, game, incense, licorice, tobacco, and scorched earth makes a strong opening statement. Bold and virile in bearing, the 2022 Riserva packs a pretty serious punch. I would give it a few years to soften, as the tannins are formidable today. This is impeccably done. There are many notable wines in this range, but for price, value, and accessibility, the Riserva is pretty hard to beat. The 2022 spent 18 months in 500-liter barrels." —Antonio Galloni

"The Fèlsina 2022 Chianti Classico Riserva Berardenga shows pretty softness and plushness with dark fruits, plum and blackberry tart. This vintage delivers a hint of sweetness and some spice, but the wine remains easy and straightforward in terms of mouthfeel. This is an earthy, savory Sangiovese that matures in tonneaux for 12 to 16 months. Production is 50,000 bottles." —Monica Larner

"The Felsina 2022 Berardenga Riserva shows great precision and poise, starting with its aromas of red berry, dark spice, violet and lavender. Still young and primary, the elegant palate features ripe Marasca cherry, orange peel, star anise and mentholated notes accompanied by coiled, fine-grained tannins and fresh acidity. Give this time to fully unwind. Drink 2029–2037." —Kerin O'Keefe

More about Felsina

Fèlsina was founded in 1966 when Domenico Poggiali acquired the estate during Tuscany's wine revolution. Nearly 600 hectares with ninety-five planted to vines, Felsina is best known for their sleek, aromatic Super Tuscan Fontallaro and the spicy, intense Rancia Riserva—wines that prove Sangiovese is anything but one-note.
