A second vintage of Fine Disregard's Mataro (the old California name for Mourvedre) from the Pato Vineyard, where centenarian, pre-Prohibition vines grow in pure beach-like sand near the California Delta. The two-person crew — Mike Schieffelin and Kara Marden — keeps it minimalist: native yeasts, neutral vessels, and a hands-off cellar. Vintage to vintage, the sandy soil and ancient vines give this Mataro its savory depth and dense, drying tannins. Decant and serve with a meal.
