The Nada family have been quietly turning out benchmark Barbaresco since their first bottling in the early 1980s, working from Cascina Rombone in the high, cool commune of Treiso. Montaribaldi is the exception: a cru in the commune of Barbaresco itself, a warmer, more open site than the Treiso slopes at home. It is their aromatic, elegant bottling, less muscular than the home vineyard at Rombone and all the more charming for it. 2016 was one of Piedmont's landmark vintages, a year that delivered Nebbiolo with power and finesse at the same time, and a decade in this is opening up beautifully: rose petal, red cherry, sweet spice, and tannins that have relaxed into silk.

Spice, leather, smoke, licorice and dried flowers are some of the many notes that develop in this gorgeous, enveloping Barbaresco. At this stage, the Montaribaldi is the most reticent of the Nada Barbarescos, but its pedigree and potential are both evident.
