From the same 1840-founded Forey domaine, this Grand Cru represents the pinnacle of their holdings. Échézeaux spans 40 hectares above Clos de Vougeot, divided among 80 owners across 11 lieux-dits. Forey's parcels lie in Clos Saint-Denis and Les Treux—the lower, most prized sections continuing from Grands-Échézeaux. The 2023 is earthy and profound, marked by dark fruits and smoky touches. Ample yet vigorous, this is a true nobleman that will need cellaring to reveal its silky character and interminable length. Built for 15+ years of evolution. Decant 2 hours.

More about Forey Pere et Fils

Regis Forey makes a range of traditional, old school Pinot Noir in the heart of Vosne-Romanée. His domaine is a total of 10 hectares and includes holdings from Nuits-St-Georges to Morey-St-Denis, and include some top 1er crus in Vosne. But the wines (and Regis himself) are not flashy, and indeed they can take careful cellaring to unlock their full potential.

These are the very qualities that first drew famed importer Neal Rosenthal to the estate back in 1982. Indeed this was one of the first Burgundy producers in a portfolio that is now famous for a slew of top-notch domaines and classic wines. What drew Neal to this domaine are the same qualities that his entire portfolio exemplifies: pure, unadulterated expressions of terroir.

Flatiron's Take

From the Importer

This fine Grand Cru is from a Forey-owned parcel of three-tenths of a hectare. The precise site is in the climats of “Les Treux” and “Clos Saint-Denis” which generally are geographically between “Les Suchots” and “Les Grands Echezeaux.” One third of the vines were planted in 1949 with the rest being planted in two waves: 1974 and again in 2004.
