Cabernet Franc with a Finger Lakes accent — cool, peppery, alive. Forge Cellars is best known for serious Riesling, but Louis Barruol (the Rhône hand behind Château de Saint Cosme), Justin Boyette, and Richard Rainey have quietly built one of New York State's most compelling Cab Franc programs alongside it. Willow is the same northernmost Seneca Lake vineyard that gives them such bright, exuberant Riesling; for the reds it yields a fragrant, savory, almost Loire-leaning style with juicy acidity and gentle tannins. The 2024 is the latest in a string of wines that have shown remarkable poise across very different growing seasons — pure varietal Cab Franc, lightly handled in the cellar, ready to drink chilled-down on the porch or alongside a real dinner.

Tasting Profile

Bright ruby. Red currant, raspberry, crushed bell pepper, fresh tobacco leaf, violet, and a snap of black pepper. Medium-bodied, juicy acid, fine-grained tannins, and a leafy-savory finish that begs another sip.
