The same great Brunate cru from Francesco Rinaldi, this time in the celebrated 2010 vintage, one of Barolo's finest in a generation. The family farms this powerful La Morra-Barolo border vineyard the traditional way, with no new oak and long aging in large Slavonian casks. Brunate is known for marrying depth and power with brilliant balance, and 2010's combination of structure and freshness suits it perfectly. Younger and tighter than the 2006, this still has a long life ahead. Give it air now, or tuck it away for further reward.

More about Francesco Rinaldi

One of the last of the old-school Barolo traditionalists. Founded in 1870 in Barolo proper, run now by nieces Paola and Piera Rinaldi (and Piera's daughters). No new oak, long maceration, aged in huge Slavonian oak botti—exactly how they did it a hundred years ago. Brunate and Cannubi are the stars.

Tasting Profile

Powerful yet balanced Nebbiolo with rose, tar, cherry and earth. Firm tannins, vivid acidity. Approachable with air but with years ahead.
