Nestled in the heart of the Barolo region, the Bricco delle Viole vineyard gives rise to a wine that perfectly embodies the elegance of Nebbiolo. This 2021 Barolo offers a blend of fresh red fruit and floral notes, balanced by subtle earthy nuances, reflecting the unique terroir of the vineyard.

Ripe cherries, raspberries, and strawberries greet the nose, accompanied by delicate floral aromas of rose and violet, and underlined by soft earthy tones. On the palate, the wine is lively yet refined, with fine tannins that offer structure while maintaining the wine's light touch. The acidity is bright, bringing out the freshness of the fruit, while the finish is long and smooth, leaving behind lingering red fruit and floral notes.

A perfect companion for roasted meats, game, or truffle-infused dishes, this Barolo is delightful now but promises further evolution in the cellar, revealing even more layers of complexity as it ages.

Antonio Galloni

96 points

"The 2021 Barolo Bricco delle Viole is a wine of stature and breeding. Vertical in shape, the Bricco delle Viole has so much to offer. Dark-toned fruit, leather, incense, gravel and licorice add an attractive savory edge. The 2021 is an especially somber, potent Bricco delle Viole. I would not dream of touching a bottle anytime soon." —Antonio Galloni

Robert Parker

"The organic G.D. Vajra 2021 Barolo Bricco delle Viole first shows a fragile side, but it eventually rolls onto much greater momentum and focus as it opens in the glass. This is always one of my favorite wines from this excellent producer, and I love it especially thanks to its fine nuances of redcurrant, pressed flower and something a little savory like peat moss. There is a hint of ashy stone or brimstone. All of these little details emerge with terrific sharpness in an epic vintage such as 2021. Fruit comes from a seven-hectare plot at 400 to 480 meters in elevation on Sant'Agata marl soils with marine fossils." —Monica Larner

Decanter

95 points

"The Bricco delle Viole is a fairly full-bodied, mouth-filling wine that needs further ageing to assimilate. Complex aromas of cinnamon, brushwood, violets, mint and cherry blossom intertwine to create an intoxicating flavour. The core of dark berry fruit is fleshy and rich, but is cleanly and firmly enveloped by suede-textured tannins. The youthful tension is enhanced by the characteristic linear acidity. A hint of liquorice and juniper seeps through on the finish."

"Camphor, violet, woodland berry and dark spice are just some of the aromas you’ll find on the fragrant 2021 Bricco delle Viole from G.D. Vajra. It’s smooth and delicious, with flavors of ripe Marasca cherry, licorice, brown pepper and a burst of blood orange on the close. It’s well balanced thanks to taut, refined tannins and fresh acidity." —Kerin O’Keefe

More about G.D. Vajra

G.D. Vajra traces back to 1968, when Aldo Vajra inherited his grandparents' farm in Vergne, the highest village in Barolo. He was a pioneer of organic viticulture in Piedmont—certified in 1971, decades before it became fashionable. His Langhe Nebbiolo showcases the grape at its most approachable, fermented naturally, aged in neutral oak.
