From the esteemed Coste di Rose vineyard, G.D. Vajra’s 2021 Barolo offers a stunning expression of Nebbiolo, combining the richness of Barolo with a delicate, approachable elegance. The wine reveals a balance of ripe red fruit, floral nuances, and earthy depth that reflect the vineyard’s distinctive terroir.

The nose is inviting, with aromas of cherry, raspberry, and pomegranate, complemented by a floral bouquet of rose and violet. Subtle earthy hints of tobacco and spice add complexity. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied with silky tannins that provide structure while allowing the fruit to shine. The acidity brings freshness and lift, while the finish is long and refined, leaving behind lingering notes of fruit, earth, and spice.

Perfect for pairing with roasted meats, truffle dishes, or rich pasta, this Barolo is already drinking beautifully but has the potential to age gracefully, revealing even more layers of complexity over time.

Antonio Galloni

91 points

"The 2021 Barolo Coste di Rose is soft and quite supple, qualities that make it easy to taste, even in the early going. Crushed flowers, dried cherry, mint, rose petal are nicely lifted in this understated, quiet Barolo. This comes across as quite open for a young Barolo." —Antonio Galloni

Robert Parker

96 points

"The G.D. Vajra 2021 Barolo Coste di Rose (a certified organic wine) is especially fragrant and floral in this vintage. It could be the power of suggestion given the wine's name ("slope of roses"), but you absolutely get hints of heritage rose or rose hip in this beautiful Nebbiolo. The 2021 vintage hits the ball out of the park. There are characteristic hints of tar and something that reminds me of oil paints or linseed oil. I love the clarity of the mouthfeel." —Monica Larner

Kerin O'Keefe

96 points

"Loaded with finesse, the 2021 Coste di Rose has classic Barolo aromas of wild red berry, rose petal, camphor and spice. It’s smooth and delicious, doling out wild raspberry, strawberry compote, star anise and black tea before a minty finish. Polished tannins and fresh acidity keep it impeccably balanced. While already tempting, the best is yet to come." —Kerin O’Keefe

More about G.D. Vajra

G.D. Vajra traces back to 1968, when Aldo Vajra inherited his grandparents' farm in Vergne, the highest village in Barolo. He was a pioneer of organic viticulture in Piedmont—certified in 1971, decades before it became fashionable. His Langhe Nebbiolo showcases the grape at its most approachable, fermented naturally, aged in neutral oak.
