Arione is located just south of Francia in Serralunga d’Alba, with slightly deeper soils and more westerly exposure. Under Roberto Conterno’s meticulous guidance, this site yields Barolo that is darker, more compact, and deeply structured—offering a slightly more brooding counterpart to the more linear, lifted Francia.
The 2020 vintage brings classicism and poise—fresh acidity, refined tannins, and beautifully balanced ripeness. In the glass, it’s all black cherry, crushed rose, iron, and menthol, wrapped in a firm but finely textured frame. The palate is expansive yet controlled, with a mineral core and a finish that unfolds slowly and with intent.
Aged traditionally in large botti, Arione 2020 is unmistakably Conterno: detailed, powerful, and built to age for decades. It’s a wine for the cellar, a monument to terroir, and a must for serious Nebbiolo collectors.
