Conterno's iconic Cascina Francia in a riper, generous vintage. This single-vineyard Serralunga Barolo from clay-limestone soils is made traditionally by Roberto Conterno, fermented on native yeasts with weeks of maceration and aged in large Slavonian casks. The 2009 was a warm, generous year producing more open, earlier-maturing Barolos, and this one is drinking in a lush, welcoming window now. It delivers the depth and pedigree of one of Barolo's greatest addresses without asking you to wait. Decant and pour.

More about Giacomo Conterno

The Piedmont legend. Giovanni Conterno opened a tavern in 1908, made Barolo for it, and the first Riserva changed everything. His son Giacomo took over in 1934, and the estate's been making world-class Nebbiolo ever since. Monfortino Riserva is aged seven years minimum in huge botti—old school done perfectly.
