From one of the Rhône Valley’s most esteemed producers, Guigal’s Ex-Voto Hermitage Rouge 2018 is a wine that reflects both tradition and innovation. A blend of Syrah from the legendary Côte-Rôtie and the warm, sun-drenched vineyards of the southern Rhône, this wine is a tribute to the exceptional terroirs of the region. The Ex-Voto cuvée, known for its richness and complexity, showcases the very best of what the Rhône can offer.

The 2018 vintage opens with aromas of ripe dark fruit—blackberry, cassis—and a touch of smokiness, which is characteristic of Guigal’s signature style. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied with firm tannins and a velvety texture, revealing layers of spice, leather, and a hint of licorice. The acidity is perfectly balanced, adding freshness and structure to the wine’s powerful character. The finish is long and persistent, with a touch of black pepper and a mineral edge that underscores its Côte-Rôtie origins.

Guigal’s Ex-Voto Hermitage Rouge 2018 is a wine built for aging, with the potential to evolve gracefully over the next decade or more. It pairs beautifully with grilled meats, lamb, or rich stews, but its complexity also makes it enjoyable on its own. Whether you’re a seasoned Rhône lover or new to the region, this wine offers a perfect expression of the depth and elegance that define Guigal’s winemaking.

Robert Parker

97 points

"Still in barrel, the 2018 Ermitage Ex Voto continues to impress. Brown sugar notes accent cherries and raspberries on the nose, while the full-bodied palate is lush and expansive, delivering waves of pleasure on the mid-palate before ending long and silky." —Robert Parker

Jancis Robinson

18 points

"Tar, oil, granite, thickness. Dense, compressed fruit but the tannins are very resolved already. Delicious meatiness coming through, and a long bitter-chocolate finish and no question of the complexity that lies in wait."

More about Guigal

E. Guigal is the gravitational center of the northern Rhône. Founded in 1946, now overseen by Philippe Guigal after his father Marcel logged 64 vintages, they're the dominant force in Côte-Rôtie—vinifying roughly a third of the appellation's entire production. Their négociant model, paired with vineyard partnerships, is how you build legends.
