The Brauneberger Juffer is the Steinmetz estate's home turf and its flagship, a legendary steep slate slope right on the doorstep. The "GB" here stands for Grosses Brauneberger, Stefan's own in-house designation for a dry grand cru from the site, his personal answer to a Grosses Gewachs. It's dry, fine-boned, and cut from a parcel at the foot of the slope, and it delivers the Juffer's signature mix of apricot fruit and mineral salinity. If you want to taste why Brauneberg earns its reputation, start right here.

Antonio Galloni

95 points

"The 2024 Riesling Brauneberger Juffer GB, GB standing for Grosser Brauneberger rather than GG, is from a parcel at the bottom of the slope called Hasenläufer. A note of apricot is tender but exquisitely pure on the nose. The palate follows in the same vein, with a fine-boned body, real finesse and much freshness. All is in tune, enhanced by both salt and lemony brightness. The 2024 is wonderful." —Anne Krebiehl MW

WINE GUIDES

German Wines

Is there a better grape than Riesling? Is there a better value? Its fruit purity, its perfume, and its mineral nuance are all unparalleled. And for centuries, the top German Rieslings were priced accordingly: at least as expensive as the top red wines of Bordeaux and Burgundy. But nowadays you could spend a lifetime exploring Germany’s great Riesling-producing regions while staying well within your budget. You might take an occasional break to try Germany’s other white grapes or perhaps a glass of Spätburgunder (the local name for Pinot Noir). It’s time to get started!
