Herve Murat is a small, under-the-radar Burgundy grower based in Concoeur, prized by insiders for old-vine fruit and old-school value. This Beaune 1er Cru comes from Les Tuvilains, a premier cru on the Beaune slope, with vines planted back in 1947, and that vine age gives the wine real depth for its level. The 2012 was a small but high-quality red Burgundy vintage, and at well over a decade this bottle has reached a lovely mature window. Drink now; honest, ageworthy premier cru from a name in the know.

Robert Parker

90 points

"The 2012 Beaune 1er Cru Les Tuvilains comes from vines planted in 1947 and was affected by hail this year. It has a very attractive bouquet with raspberry and cranberry fruit with fine focus and tension. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, supple in the mouth with nicely judge acidity and very pure on the harmonious finish. This is one of the best wines from Murat this year." —Neal Martin
