Gruyaches is one of the jewels Jean-Philippe Fichet has brought into the light. This Meursault master farms a tiny plot of vines pushing 80 years old, tucked right up against the Charmes premier cru, and that old-vine depth shows in the glass. His method is unwavering: hand farming, a patient 18-month elevage in mostly used wood and then tank, minimal lees stirring, all aimed at transparency, freshness and length. The 2024 is fresh and precise. Expect more mid-palate weight and concentration than the entry wines here, a single-vineyard Meursault that frequently drinks like a premier cru. Reward it with a little cellar time.
