Meursault is not where you go looking for value, which is exactly why Jean-Philippe Fichet is worth knowing about. His estate is tiny — every parcel under a hectare, the vines old — and he chases one thing above all others: purity. Chevalieres is the most crystalline of his village lieux-dits, a wine of mineral cut and precision rather than butter and weight. The warm 2019 vintage fills that frame out without blurring its lines, giving ripe orchard fruit and citrus oil over a chalky, saline finish. Delicate and powerful at once, and genuinely light on its feet. These wines remain under the radar; that is not a permanent condition.
