Julie Balagny was one of the brightest lights of natural Beaujolais — a Parisian who arrived in Fleurie in 2009 with the encouragement of Yvon Metras and Jean-Francois Ganevat, and quickly became the appellation's most acclaimed practitioner of cool carbonic maceration with zero added sulfur. Chavot is one of her old-vine Fleurie parcels, farmed with obsessive care and bottled with nothing added or taken away. The 2014, from a cool and classic vintage, shows her signature: ethereal, perfumed, vividly alive Gamay. Balagny passed away in 2023, which makes her wines all the more precious. A pure expression of Fleurie from a true original.
