A Flatiron favorite for years, Julien Sunier makes some of the most refined Cru Beaujolais around, drawing on cool, higher-elevation sites that give his Gamay a Pinot-like tension and florality. That comes honestly: Sunier got his start working for Burgundy legend Christophe Roumier before setting up in Beaujolais, where he farms naturally and vinifies in traditional semi-carbonic fashion. This is the Fleurie, the most perfumed of the crus, and at well over a decade old it has shed its youthful restraint entirely. It's a mature bottle now from a private collection, so expect a wine that has softened into its secondary, savory side rather than primary fruit. Decant gently and drink soon.
