Les Jarollières sits on the Volnay side of Pommard — close enough to the border that the wines often show more Volnay finesse than Pommard muscle. It is a shared 1er Cru, not a monopole, but Pousse d'Or's holding has long been one of the standout parcels. The domaine, owned by Patrick Landanger since 1997 (he bought it from the legendary Gérard Potel), is one of Volnay's most historic addresses, with monopoles, multiple 1er Crus, and a holding in Chambolle's Amoureuses. The 2016 vintage was small after spring frost, but what survived produced concentrated, classically structured wines. Nine years in, this Pommard has shed its initial grip and entered an excellent drinking window — red and black cherry, plum, sweet earth, refined tannin.

Antonio Galloni

92 points

"The 2016 Pommard Les Jarollières 1er Cru has a clean and pure bouquet with black cherries, raspberry coulis and light cassis scents. The oak here is evident but nicely proportioned against the fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple blackberry and raspberry notes, just a tad on the oaky side although that will ultimately be subsumed and there is commendable harmony and length on the finish. This is very promising and ranks highly against its peers. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting." —Neal Martin

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Roast duck with cherry sauce, beef shoulder braised in red wine, pork belly with lentils, aged Comté or Tomme, mushroom-truffle pasta, roast pheasant. Pommard's structure handles richer, slow-cooked dishes beautifully.

Tasting Profile

Refined, structured Pommard. Red and dark cherry, plum, sweet earth, dried rose, a graphite edge. Polished tannin, fresh acidity, a long, savory finish leaning Volnay-elegant.
