A back-vintage Chianti Classico Riserva from a tiny family estate in Villa a Sesta, in the hills of Castelnuovo Berardenga, with a real story behind it. The farm was founded in 1970 by Vasco Lastrucci, nicknamed "Il Chiorba," and for decades it sold its fruit in bulk to the region's big names; only after 2010, when Vasco's daughter Sabrina took over, did they begin bottling their own wine. This Riserva is mostly Sangiovese rounded out with Canaiolo and Colorino, grown at around 420 meters and aged in large Slavonian oak casks. The 2013 was a classic, structured Chianti vintage, and with this much bottle age it's settled into a savory, mature groove, drink over the next few years.
