Old-school Cornas from a beloved traditionalist who makes barely 150 cases a year in a cellar beneath his own house. Marcel Juge works 100% Syrah from steep granite hillsides, ferments whole-cluster under a submerged cap, ages in old demi-muids and bottles without filtration, exactly as it was done decades ago. The 2009 came from a lush, opulent Northern Rhone vintage, giving a Cornas with unusual flesh and amiability wrapped around the village's classic savory grip. It is the rare bottle from this address that charms early while still rewarding patience. Decant before serving.

More about Marcel Juge

Marcel Juge was a legend of the Northern Rhône, making rustic, earthy Cornas from his cellars beneath his Cornas house for decades. Whole-cluster fermentation, 18–24 months in old demi-muids, organic farming—wines with a gentleness that belies their depth. He retired in the late '90s, but his legacy and some vineyard land live on through his daughter Olga.
