Teurons sits mid-slope on the Beaune hill, and this bottling comes off vines the Tawse family owns there - around sixty years old, planted in iron-tinted red-brown clay studded with small round stones. Pascal Marchand, the Québécois who made his name resurrecting Comte Armand's Clos des Épeneaux and then converting Domaine de la Vougeraie to biodynamics, has run this house with fellow Canadian Moray Tawse since 2011. Everything is hand-harvested from biodynamically farmed parcels, and the reds are built for transparency rather than extraction. Harvest here began on 9 September in 2023 and ran three weeks; this finished at a modest 12.5% alcohol. Beaune premier cru is where the Côte de Beaune gives you perfume and red fruit rather than muscle - drink this over the next five to ten years.

Burghound

91-93 points

"(Sweet Spot) (from Bas de Teurons). An elegant, pure and airy nose also freely reveals its aromas the essence of red currant, cherry and pretty floral nuances. The refined, energetic and well-detailed medium weight flavors possess a lacy mouthfeel while exuding a subtle bead of minerality on the youthfully austere and beautifully long finale. This is lovely and very Teurons in style." —Allen Meadows

Antonio Galloni

90-92 points

"The 2023 Beaune Teurons 1er Cru has the best bouquet of the three Beaune Premier Crus, fresh and floral with vibrant red fruit and a little more mineralité. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, slightly darker fruit and gentle grip with a silky smooth finish. Enjoy this over the next eight to ten years, possibly longer." —Neal Martin
