A Lebanese red grown within sight of the Roman temples of Baalbek, and made with all the seriousness of a good southern Rhône blend. Massaya grows Terrasses de Baalbeck on vineyards more than 1,000 meters up in the foothills of Mount Lebanon, in the Hadath Baalbeck area. The soils are chalky clay, and the vines look out over the temples of Jupiter, Bacchus and Venus. The Ghosn brothers run one of Lebanon's most iconic estates, and their wines respect tradition and age well. If you've enjoyed a bottle of Lebanese red and want to see what the mountains can really do, this is a good next step.

More about Massaya

Lebanese wine from the Beqaa Valley—made possible because two brothers and a pair of French wine families decided that rebuilding a country's wine tradition was worth the gamble. Sami and Ramzi Ghosn partnered with Châteauneuf-du-Pape's Bruniers and Saint-Émilion's Hebrards to craft Grenache-based reds that prove Lebanon's terroir is as serious as the region's history is complicated.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Grilled lamb kafta with tahini and flatbread; lamb chops rubbed with za'atar; roast chicken with sumac and onions; eggplant stuffed with spiced ground lamb; mujaddara with caramelized onions.

Tasting Profile

Expect a Cinsault-Grenache blend in a southern Rhône mould: red cherry, raspberry and dried herbs, with a touch of spice and earthy warmth. It's typically medium-bodied, with supple tannins, the lifted freshness that high-altitude vineyards bring and a dry, savoury finish. Think a Côtes du Rhône with a little extra mountain brightness.
