Sourced from the legendary Shake Ridge Ranch in Amador County, Newfound’s 2022 Syrah is a standout example of how California can channel Syrah’s wilder, more soulful side. Matt Naumann farms and vinifies with a light hand—whole cluster fermentation, native yeasts, neutral oak—all in service of transparency and energy.
The result is a wine that opens with dark fruit, cracked pepper, lavender, and a hint of smoked meat. The palate is savory and taut, with fine-grained tannins, bright acidity, and a backbone that gives it shape without heaviness.
