A magnum from one of the modern era's most legendary Piedmont vintages, of one of Oddero's most prized parcels. Mondoca is a Vigna within Bussia Soprana in Monforte d'Alba: south- and southwest-facing, the warmest exposure in the Barolo zone, on Diano sandstone and white marl. The warm, concentrated 1990 vintage was perfectly suited to the site, and 35 years on this 1.5L bottling is firmly in its mature drinking window, with the magnum format keeping the fruit lifted and the perfume regal. From the Oddero family that has been making wine in La Morra since the 18th century. A museum-piece magnum from a great Monforte cru in a great year.

More about Oddero

Super fresh, glowing Barolo from a 200-year legacy. Poderi Oddero dates to the 1700s and released its first bottled Barolo in 1878. Now run by sixth and seventh generations (Mariavittoria and Mariacristina and their children), they're certified organic and own some of Barolo's best crus: Bussia, Brunate, Vignarionda. The wines pop with bright red fruit and mineral finesse—drinkability with authority.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Brasato al Barolo, agnolotti del plin in butter and sage, roast venison with juniper, tajarin with truffle, or aged Toma. A long-Sunday-lunch wine for a museum-piece magnum.

Tasting Profile

Mature warm-vintage richness: dried black cherry, rose petal, tar, sweet tobacco, leather, dried porcini and balsamic underbrush. Tannins long resolved into silk; the magnum keeps the fruit deep and the finish savory and long.
