A magnum of Oddero's Bussia Riserva from the classical 2008 vintage, sourced from their Vigna Mondoca parcel in the Bussia MGA of Monforte d'Alba (Mondoca is one of the warmest sub-zones in Barolo, sitting near the village of Dardi on sandstone and Diano sandstone soils). Aged approximately three years in 30hl Austrian oak casks plus a minimum two years in bottle for Riserva status, this is Mariacristina Oddero's traditional hand at her family's most age-worthy site. Seventeen years on and in 1.5L, the wine is just hitting its prime mature stride, with another decade-plus of slow life in front of it.

Super fresh, glowing Barolo from a 200-year legacy. Poderi Oddero dates to the 1700s and released its first bottled Barolo in 1878. Now run by sixth and seventh generations (Mariavittoria and Mariacristina and their children), they're certified organic and own some of Barolo's best crus: Bussia, Brunate, Vignarionda. The wines pop with bright red fruit and mineral finesse—drinkability with authority.

Tasting Profile

Mature Monforte structure: dark cherry, dried rose, tar, tobacco leaf, dried fennel seed, leather and dusty mineral grip. Tannins fine-grained, finish long and savory, the magnum keeping the fruit lifted.
