A straight-up banger of a rosé from one of Chinon's most respected estates, an annual Flatiron favorite. Olga Raffault is best known for serious, long-lived red Chinon, but their rosé is their most joyful wine, and it punches well above the category. The Cabernet Franc comes from sand and gravel soils, which give it tons of accessible juiciness and a crunchy bite of minerality. It's very aromatic on the nose and beautifully fresh on the palate, with pretty fruit and hints of stone and herbs, plus a finish that's long and refined. Delicious enough for a sunny Sunday afternoon but complex enough to elevate a meal, made by an estate where careful, skillful farming is inherent to every vintage.

More about Olga Raffault

Olga Raffault never actually made wine—she was just the unforgettable owner for many years. Now her granddaughter Sylvie and Sylvie's husband Eric run the 24-hectare estate in the Véron, between the Loire and Vienne rivers, where five generations of Raffaults have worked. 23 hectares of Chinon from Cabernet Franc, just converted to organic, picked by hand, fermented native. The flagship Les Picasses from south-facing slopes speaks in a voice that's elegant and utterly Loire.
