This is a mature Pomerol from the Lafleur vineyard, made by the Lafleur family, without the grand-vin price of admission. Sylvie and Jacques Guinaudeau created Pensées de Lafleur in 1987 as the second wine of Château Lafleur, the small Pomerol estate harvested from the same plot since the family's ancestor Henri Greloud founded it in 1872. Over time it became something else: a Cru in its own right, separate from the Lafleur parcels around it. The Guinaudeaus trace Pensées to a small strip of clay running through the middle of a vineyard that's otherwise mostly gravel. That's why we think of it less as Lafleur's understudy and more as a different take on the same ground. The family calls it Lafleur's counterpart, velvety and deeply complex. This 2002 has more than two decades in bottle, so it's a rare chance to taste Lafleur's other side with real age on it.

Tasting Profile
