Pierre-Jean Villa is one of the Northern Rhone's most exciting modern producers, farming organically and making wines of real precision since he founded his domaine in 2009. 'Saut de l'Ange' is his top Saint-Joseph white, made entirely from Roussanne grown on a dramatic plot perched at the edge of a cliff on schist and granite. Roussanne gives it a richer, more textured profile than your average white, with notes of pear, white flowers, honey and nuts kept lively by the granite freshness. This is a serious, age-worthy white. Drink now or hold a few years.
