Pierre Morey, longtime winemaker at Domaine Leflaive and one of Burgundy’s most respected biodynamic growers, brings that same clarity and precision to his family’s estate wines. Monthelie, nestled between Volnay and Meursault, is often overlooked—but in Morey’s hands, it’s a study in restrained elegance.

The 2022 vintage is supple and finely drawn. Expect red cherry, rose petal, and subtle earth on the nose, with a palate that’s pure and energetic, marked by delicate tannins and a fresh mineral thread. There’s no need for flash—this is Burgundy that feels grounded and complete, with nothing out of place.

Drink now with a light decant or cellar 5–8 years to see it deepen. Perfect with roast poultry, mushroom dishes, or soft cheeses. For Burgundy lovers who seek finesse over flair, Morey’s Monthelie 2022 is a quiet triumph.

Pierre Morey is a towering figure in Meursault. Along with his own prime vineyards he was also the winemaker at Domaine Leflaive in the 1980's and early '90's. He was one of the first growers in the region to fully embrace biodynamic farming, converting both Leflaive and his own domaine and reaching full certification by 1997. Now his daughter, Anne Morey, has taken the healm and is continuing on the path he started. She is a very intelligent, passionate and gracious person and her talents in the vineyard and cellar are exceptional.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

AG 92
"The 2022 Monthelie rouge has a lifted, well-defined bouquet with cranberry and wild strawberry, quite ripe and fleshy without being overbearing. Just generous. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannins. It’s extremely elegant with piquant red fruit and a little spice on the finish. What a superb Monthelie from Anne Morey." -Vinous

Focus On: Burgundy

Burgundy has long been the world's most famous wine region. But, underneath all the prestige, this region can be hard to get to know.

While Burgundy offers many great trophies from top producers in well-known villages like Vosne Romanee and Puligny Montrachet, it also offers excellent values to anyone willing to explore beyond the famous names. Our collection– one of the largest in the U.S. – has plenty of both!

From the very basics of Burgundy's regions and wines to the specific terroirs of individual single vineyards--
everything you need to know about Bourgogne is just a click away!
