Domaine Pierre Morey’s Volnay 1er Cru Santenots 2022 is a stunning expression of one of the most respected vineyards in the Côte de Beaune. Santenots, a premier cru vineyard located on the border of Meursault, is known for producing wines that balance the finesse of Volnay with a touch of the broader, richer character of Meursault. The 2022 vintage captures the harmony of these elements, offering a wine that is both refined and expressive.

With a cool, temperate climate and the region’s characteristic limestone soils, the wine opens with vibrant red fruit—raspberry and cherry—complemented by delicate floral notes and hints of spice. On the palate, the wine is silky and medium-bodied, with smooth tannins that provide structure without overshadowing the wine’s elegance. There is a subtle minerality that runs through the wine, adding complexity and depth, while the finish is long and graceful, with a lingering freshness that balances the wine’s richness.

Domaine Pierre Morey’s Volnay 1er Cru Santenots 2022 is an ideal wine for those who appreciate the complexity and finesse of Burgundy’s top-tier Pinot Noir. It pairs beautifully with roasted meats, duck, or aged cheeses, and its ability to evolve with time makes it an excellent wine to cellar for several years. Whether enjoyed now or allowed to age, it is a beautiful expression of Volnay’s premier cru terroir, offering elegance, depth, and a true sense of place.

Pierre Morey is a towering figure in Meursault. Along with his own prime vineyards he was also the winemaker at Domaine Leflaive in the 1980's and early '90's. He was one of the first growers in the region to fully embrace biodynamic farming, converting both Leflaive and his own domaine and reaching full certification by 1997. Now his daughter, Anne Morey, has taken the healm and is continuing on the path he started. She is a very intelligent, passionate and gracious person and her talents in the vineyard and cellar are exceptional.

"Riper and more layered aromas include those of poached plum anise violet and a touch of wood. There is markedly more volume and mid-palate density to the velvety yet quite powerful full-bodied flavors that exude a subtle minerality on the focused balanced youthfully austere and even more persistent finale. This too is excellent"

"The Volnay Santenots from Domaine Pierre Morey is a delightful wine with a deep ruby colour bright ripe cherry fruit with floral notes and a savoury gamey edge. The texture is fresh with firm tannins and a rewardingly long finish. The grapes are from 0.34 hectares in Plures next to the vines of the Hospices. However a third of this is now replanted leaving only 18 ares. The soil is very stony here; although this version lacks the density and power of some wines from Santenots du Milieu it has its own charm and should age well."
