Il Carbonaione is the work of Vittorio Fiore, one of Italy's most respected winemaking consultants, on his own land high above Greve in Chianti. The Carbonaione vineyard sits in the Ruffoli hills and was first replanted after World War I, making it a rare survivor of the original Sangiovese di Lamole clone — old vines that give this 100% Sangiovese real power and depth. Made outside the Chianti Classico rules as an Alta Valle della Greve IGT, it's pure, ambitious Sangiovese. The 2010 came from an excellent, balanced Tuscan vintage and is now drinking in a mature, harmonious window. A serious bottle for a Sangiovese lover.
